5 Dangers of Bing Cashback Advertising

Andrew Morgan at Rimm-Kaufman came up with some great advice for Bing Cashback advertisers. I will give a short overview but be sure to check out his post!
- Andrew talks about Deal Websites and forums that figure out the best deals and keywords. I showed you one of these forums already. What happens is people will focus on specific keywords to get the rebates. Therefore your data on these keywords is being distorted.
- Also, people poste direct links that will possibly circumvent your tracking. So your tracking will not work on these sales. And the funds in your Bing Cashback account might get depleted since these sales are not tracked and therefore dont contribute to your “Bing Cashback piggy bank”. That means you will have to watch your Bing Cashback account more closely.
- If your Bing Cashbank piggy bank goes into overdraft because of all those sales you dont notice (not being tracked), Microsoft will ultimately send you an invoice.
- Fraud. Andrew noted fraud through return and through gift cards. If your return policy is longer than 60 days (the cashback waiting period) you might encounter fraudulent buyers. If your return policy is shorter, make sure tell Microsoft about orders that are returned. Exclude gift cards from your Bing Cashback policy! People would buy gift cards first, get their cashback refund and then make another Bing Cashback purchase at your store. Oups, that’s double the refund!
- Last but not least, don’t include your brand keywords into Bing Cashback. They are relatively cheap and have a relatively high conversion rate. Now that means a lot of money will leave your piggy bank (high rebates) but less will flow back in (lower cost for brand keywords).
Thanks to Andrew for those insights. As I said, be sure to check out his full post and have a look at their website. These guys share some great info on SEM!
So long,
Frederik
